Whether you've been married for three months or three years, here's how to get out of routines that hurt your relationship.

Rut #1: Watching TV During Dinner
Why it's bad: Having dinner together offers valuable face time with your partner. Turning on the tube competes for attention and cuts in on your time to catch up and connect after so many hours spent apart.
How to stop: Set aside 30 to 45 minutes of one-on-one talk time with the TV off every night. This shows your spouse that when you're not at work, you're devoted to your home and family. During this time, ignore your phone and leave the BlackBerry in another room. You'll feel closer within days.

Rut #2: Going Too Long Without Sex
Why it's bad: If the amount of sex you're used to having starts to slide, your body and brain can get used to the decreased intimacy, causing you to go even longer without wanting that closeness.
How to stop: Don't wait until you feel like doing it. Initiate sex when you're open to doing it, rather than when you have the desire. This will jump-start your feelings so you'll crave it more often.

Rut #3: Going a Whole Workday Without Talking to Your Sweetheart
Why it's bad: You'll start growing apart emotionally after subconsciously feeling like the other person doesn't think about you (and your needs) during the day.
How to stop: Initiate daily contact by sending a quick "How's your day?" email. And make the effort to do something nice every day (pick up his fave dessert, call from the store to see if she needs something). It shows forethought and consideration for your partner's needs.

Rut #4: Tuning Each Other Out
Why it's bad: You're disengaging from each other.
How to stop: Make an effort to do small things such as kissing before saying good-bye, making eye contact when talking, and complimenting each other frequently throughout the week. Does he not seem to hear you talking during certain times (ahem, when ESPN is on)? Don't try to make conversation while the TV is on. If it's important, press mute; otherwise, save conversations for dinner or your bedroom, where you're less likely to be interrupted.

Rut #5: Not Fighting
Why it's bad: Disagreements are good in a marriage because you're expressing your individuality. Talking about issues when they first happen makes them easier to fix than if you wait until after they've festered.
How to stop: Bring up what's on your mind in a way that shows your admiration and respect for each other's thoughts and feelings. Like, "It hurts my feelings when ______. I was hoping we could figure out a new way to handle the situation together." This will set the tone of the conversation as loving and calm, but you both have to compromise to keep it that way.

Rut #6: Going out More with Friends Than with Your Spouse
Why it's bad: It sends the message that your friends are more worthy of your time.
How to stop: Schedule nights out with your crew a few times a month, but make sure to let your partner know in advance. It's important to have these friendships as long as they don't make your married time sparse. And it's always best that these friends are people your partner knows and trusts, so there's less reason to worry.

Rut #7: Being Too Close
Why it's bad: As much as you think burping, scratching, picking, or farting is funny or cute, it can backfire and cross the line. It may be a reflection of your closeness, but there should be a limit. Otherwise, you're leaving your partner with a very unsexy image of you.
How to stop: Start a new rule. If you wouldn't do it in front of your work friends, don't do it in front of your honey. To get your mate to refrain, say: "I know we're close, and we can share everything, but I'd really appreciate it if you'd leave the room, or leave me out, when you do that. It's not very sexy, and I don't want anything that makes you less sexy to me."

ut #8: Sharing Too Much with Your Parents or In-laws
Why it's bad: This shows a lack of loyalty to your spouse. Your parents shouldn't have any information that your spouse doesn't have. And they shouldn't know anything he wouldn't want them to know.
How to stop: Be loyal to your spouse even when she's not present. If you wouldn't say something in front of her, don't say it at all. You would want the same in return.

From simple colds and viruses to life-threatening diseases, any kind of health problem can put a huge strain on your pocketbook. By adopting certain habits you cannot only save money on fewer doctor’s visits and medications, you can preserve your cash in other ways.

Below are eight frugal living tips that will actually lengthen your lifespan.

1. Quit Smoking
Although quitting may be easier said than done, it is a no-brainer that doing so will cut costs and help save your life. The CDC actually offers a helpful guide to quitting smoking, which could be a great resource when you decide to put down the tobacco once and for all.

2. Stop Tanning
There is a growing fad for people of all ages and cultures to look bronzed. If you are seeking the warmth of a tanning bed in order to look a certain way, then it is time you stopped. Quitting now will decrease your chances of developing malignant melanoma.

3. Cancel Your Paid Television
It is obvious how this will save money, but you may not see the direct connection to your health. Simply put, it will get you off that couch and encourage you to pursue more active, healthy activities.

4. Drink Only Water
Water is essential for good health and you should definitely be drinking a minimum of eight glasses per day, maybe even more. By ditching all other beverages for simple tap water, you will also save a considerable amount of money.

5. Wear Sensible Shoes
This is a hard message to get across to many women, as they seem to think they are better off in stylish, expensive shoes. Not so, as many high-end shoes are terrible for your back and posture. This can, in turn, lead to other problems. Opt for sensibly priced, comfortable shoes – both your wallet and your back will thank you for it.

6. Avoid the Drive-Thru
Eating out while on the go can nickel and dime your pocketbook until there is nothing left. Not only that, but the food is often terribly unhealthy.

7. Eat Slowly
When you eat too quickly, you will often overeat as a result. This will likely cause you to spend more money on larger portions and it will also contribute to digestive issues. Take it easy when you start a meal and finish at your leisure.

8. Relax at Home
Rather than going out on the town when you have some free time, save your money and have a relaxing night in. Believe it or not, your stress level will be reduced when you can relax in a calm atmosphere. This, in turn, improves your overall health.

By following the above advice, you will save a ton of money. Luckily, you will have many more years to enjoy that saved money, as you will also be much healthier. Many people sacrifice health for money or vice versa, but it is possible to have it all by improving your everyday habits.

  • You're about to discover a unique yet easy method that helps you successfully change your way of thinking about weight loss and enables you to simply shed those unwanted pounds forever.

You may find it somewhat frustrating, but if you're like most people, you misplace things like your car keys, eye glasses or gloves as you go about your busy day. We all tend to do that to a degree, but in the end, do you really lose that item forever?

Of course not, except on rare occasions, you'll usually find the lost item then continue on your way. So think about this for a moment ...do you ever seriously think you'll never see it again? ...

In fact, 99% of the time you do expect to find those lost items and I suggest to you that this is our mindset behind the concept of weight loss - a concept many well marketed weight loss programs have discovered and expanded upon immensely.

The very idea of losing something automatically and immediately sets your mind to the task of finding it again! In the case of weight loss, it is a sub-conscious task; consider the many "weight loss" programs available to you. Why is it that so many people struggle with a weight challenge, trying program after program and all the diets, only to see the weight return soon after the program ends?

"When you understand what specific factors contribute to weight gain, clearly and simply see why those factors have such a profound and unwanted effect inside your body and then discover the simple truths, you'll never worry about your weight again"

When given the chance, your body will naturally and automatically strive for a state of balance; physical, mental and social and it's your state of balance or imbalance that ultimately determines your weight and your everyday state of energy, vitality and well-being.

    How Balanced is Your Body?

Everything produced by your body, including weight and symptoms of any kind has to do with the quality of your body's internal state of balance.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) “Health is a complete state of physical, mental and social well-being.”

The body is comprised of 9 primary systems which are like links in a chain, they’re interdependent and the chain is only as strong as the weakest link.

When you're considering weight, three systems often stand out with distinction, the glandular system and the digestive-intestinal systems. They have an extraordinary impact on your overall state of balance and this is the area where your battle to regain control over your body weight and health must begin. These systems are your ground zero, but remember other systems may need attention too if you're to enjoy optimum health.

    1) When you understand what your existing imbalances are in your body, you will have taken a huge step toward successfully achieving health and your ideal body weight. Until you're balanced, you'll have little success shedding weight permanently and other health related symptoms will persist.

    2) 8 in 10 people experience some degree of glandular imbalance and the more severe the symptoms, the more attention is required to return the body to health. Why is this an issue? Your metabolism, your blood sugar levels and other vitally essential functions all affect your ability to carry on normally and they are controlled by your glandular system.

When you identify why your glands are sending the wrong messages and correct them, your body will respond with increased vigor thereby eliminating those sluggish feelings and general lack of energy.

    3) You should never have to diet! You may say “I lost weight before, just by dieting. Why would I need to be concerned?” It's a really great question, and the answer is another secret to achieving your ideal weight!

In the normal course of daily life you're trying to eat well but sometimes reduce the volume of foods ingested, eat empty calories such as manufactured foods built with highly refined white sugar and/or white flour or perhaps your skip meals too often and the fact is, in all cases you're building a nutrient debt.

Over time, your body goes deeper into this nutrient debt and as a result, begins automatically reacting to a perceived state of famine. In this survival mode, your body now retains all the fat it can. When you go on a nutrient deprived diet, which starves the body even further, you may lose a few pounds initially, but it will return, and sometimes more!

Starving the body simply does NOT work long-term!

Achieving your ideal weight therefore also depends on the types of food you consume vs. the calories.

When you regularly focus on nutrient rich fresh raw fruits and vegetables vs. canned or frozen, whole grains like kamut, spelt vs. whole wheat, more good fats, and a lot less refined and processed foods, your body consumes and processes this food very efficiently leaving no need to build fat reserves against the threat of famine!

Your good health and ideal weight are also dependant on a few other factors you'd be clever to incorporate into your life:

    • Stress management techniques, relaxation, breathing
    • Exercise even at a moderate level just 30 minutes a day
    • Colon cleansing/detoxifying alone can help you lose 3-10 lbs and has the added benefit of invigorating your body systems so they function more efficiently,

Weight control is not a punishment, it is a choice of healthy living. Have a favorite treat from time to time but like everything, do it in moderation

Transcript: How to Tie a Bow Tie

Hey guys - Jonathon Stewart for About.com with today's 90 second quick tip. So you're known the world over for your dazzling long tie-tying abilities. You've tied Windsors for kings and nobles and people have come from far and wide to marvel at your Four-in-Hand prowess. Then one day you're asked to be the best man at your friend's wedding, and people are expecting amazing things from your bow tie.

Well don't panic, follow these tips and you'll be the best looking best man in town. Check it out.

    Bow Tie Basics

The bow tie is used in the fanciest of fancy occasions, like weddings and high society fundraisers, and, unless you're a circus clown, is almost always worn with a tuxedo. The proper size should never be broader than the widest part of your neck and should never extend past the tips of your shirt collar. That's not to say it's illegal or anything. It's not like there are any bow tie police... are there?

How to Tie a Bow Tie

Remember, when you're looking in the mirror, your right and left will be reversed. I've put an "R" and an "L" on my respective hands to help you keep track. First, drape the bow tie around your neck and situate it so that one end hangs about two inches lower than the other. Then, take the lower end and cross it over the other one.

Bring the lower end up under the loop that has been created between your collar and the bow tie. Keep this end up, if you want, you can hold it gently in your teeth. Now, take the other end and double it over itself. This creates a front loop. Hold this in place with your thumb and forefinger.

Now, drop the other end down, then pull it up under the first loop. Here's the tricky part: while still holding the first loop firmly, push the middle of the second end through the back of the bow and through the knot. To tighten, just pull on the loops.

Adjust and Untie the Bow Tie

You might need to futz with this a bit until your bow tie is just right, and remember: if it's not perfectly neat, that's okay - a proper bow tie has character, just like you. To untie it, pull on the tails.

Which is the real draw of wearing a real bow tie. If you can't look like Dean Martin every once in awhile, what's the point of getting dressed?

A new look means a new attitude, new lifestyle, new clothes, new hairstyle and a renewed energy. Learn how to express the real you and let others see you too!

    Steps

    1. Think of what you want. Do you want to get a certain style of clothes, but can't because your closet is filled with last year's summer outfits? The first thing you should do is clean out your closet and room and decide what to keep and what not to keep.
    2. Get new clothes! Go somewhere like a thrift store or Ross to get something new. Don't go where everyone else shops. You might end up getting the same thing as someone else!
    3. Consider making your own clothes. When most people think of sewing, they think of old-fashioned puffy skirts and 6th grade's school play. Well guess what, it doesn't have to be so. There are many magazines and other sources that provide sewing patterns and sewing classes at many different venues. Who knows, If you are really good at this, you may become the next Donna Karan!
    4. Wash your face every morning and night. Tweeze bushy eyebrows and brush your teeth everyday. Maintain good hygiene
    5. Have fun with your hair. Instead of pulling it up in a bun or pony tail every day, think of other simple but cute ways to style. It could be half hair up, half hair down. You could straighten or curl it. Also think what's acceptable for various situations -- school, work, the grocery store, a party.
    6. Redo your room. This should be where you chill with friends, do homework, have slumber parties and more.
    7. Buy new makeup if you need it. Makeup should be natural, not noticeable. It's one of those things when someone says you look good, but they can't put their finger on it. Try to feel good about yourself- you dont always need make-up! However, here is a guide for when you should chuck the makeup:
      • Concealer, foundation, bronzer, powder blush, pressed powder, powder eyeshadow, pencil eyeliner, lipstick and lip-liner should all go after two years.
      • Cream blush, lip gloss, liquid gel eyeliner, cream eyeshadow all go after 12-18 months.
      • Loose powder goes out in three years.
      • Mascara must go after three months.
      • If something hasn't reached its expiration date but is broken or smells funny, chuck it!
    8. Be confident and enjoy your new, fresh look!

    Tips

    • To stop biting your nails smooth them with an emery board. A rough spot is just an invitation to chew.
    • Don't try to look like people in magazines, they are airbrushed.
    • Do not cover your face in cover-up! It looks fake.
    • Do NOT use alot of eyeliner... you will look like a racooon! =0

    Warnings

    • If you over-tweeze your eyebrows they will grow back, but be careful, it takes a while. Don't take from above the eyebrows, only from below. The start of your eyebrow should be even with the end of your eye. Try numbing them with an ice cube.
    • Change your look subtly! If you normally wear a ton of makeup, slowly wear less and less each day.

    Things You'll Need

    • Makeup
    • New clothes
    • Room redecorating supplies
    • Tweezers for plucking

    Steps

  • Trim your nails, then file. If your nails are short or you want to grow them out, just file them. Don't be too rough; you don't want to break your nails or cause nail bruises (the little white dots you get on your nails when you injure them).Don't file your nails back and forth, it is not good for your nails.
  • Remove all nail polish. Make sure you get the polish on the sides and edges with a Q-tip.
  • Soak in warm water or milk for 5 minutes. Your whole hand doesn't need to be in the bowl, just your nails.
  • Remove your nails from the water or milk and dry them off. Rub them with a rich moisturizer, like Eucerin. Push back your cuticles gently with your fingernail or an orange stick.
  • Apply a nail polish color of your choice (before applying nail polish be sure that all lotion has been removed from your nail, or else the polish will not stick well). Then, apply a clear top coat for that extra shine and extra protection against chipping.
  • Tips

    • Don't clip your cuticles with nail clippers, it's best to push them back.
    • Beforehand, if you want to, you can rub some olive or vegetable oil into your cuticles to make them looser and easier to push back. Baby oil also works well and it smells good.

    Warnings

    • If you do decide to use a nail salon instead of giving yourself a manicure or pedicure at home, here are some of the things you should look for when visiting a nail salon:
    • Use only accredited salons and technicians and look for certifications of competency, which should be displayed prominently in the salon.
    • The salon should be clean and tidy, with linen and towels changed between clients.
    • All chemicals should be in clearly marked containers.
    • Metal tools that could penetrate the skin should be sterilized in an autoclave.
    • Non-disposable nail implements should be rinsed, scrubbed in tepid water and detergent and dried, or wiped with 70% alcohol between clients.
    • Some nail salons keep implements especially set aside for each regular client. You should ask your nail technician to do this for you, if you are a regular client of a nail salon.
    • Nail implements need to be clean and dry. Don't let anyone use an implement on you that's been left sitting in water, even if the water contains disinfectant.
    • Don't use a foot spa if you've shaved your legs the night before or on the day of the pedicure, of if you have any cuts on your legs, as this makes you more vulnerable to infection.
    • If you are having acrylic nails put on, ask your nail artist to explain the procedure, what products they're going to use and how to care for the nails at home.
    • Don't be shy to ask questions about the manicure, the chemicals being used and how the implements have been cleaned.

Let’s face it, shaving is an invasive activity. Applying a sharp metal blade to your face cuts hairs but also removes microscopic layers of skin and can cause irritation. Contrary to uninformed opinions, you shouldn’t abuse your face to get a close shave. Quite the opposite. These seven simple rules put together by my pals at *Menscience will minimize damage and improve your shaving results.

Shave in the shower: Shaving should be your final step before leaving the shower. The warm moisture of a shower makes hairs soft and plump and opens your pores.

Lubricate: A performance shaving formula should form a slick lubricating cushion to allow shaving blades to glide without scraping. Leave it on your face for a minute before shaving. Some believe that pre-shave oils are unnecessary and are sold to supplement the inadequate lubrication of most shaving products.

Use a face scrub: A gentle scrubbing massage will help open pores, prime follicles and raise stubs for a closer shave. This exfoliation removes dead cells and impurities that can cause acne, ingrown hairs and infection. It will also smooth and renew your complexion.

Use a sharp blade: Discard shaving blades after four or five uses. Unfortunately, they don’t stay sharp enough for more than that. Use gentle strokes; don’t put too much pressure on the blade.

Avoid irritants: They can damage your skin and create microscopic swelling. Avoid anything that tingles, stings or numbs during or after shaving, when your skin is vulnerable. Stay away from alcohol or strong plant extracts such as menthol, peppermint or citrus.

Post-trauma soothing: Don’t skip this step; it is important to calm irritation, balance your skin’s moisture content and prevent potential problems such as ingrown hairs or clogged pores. No alcohol! You need proven functional anti-inflammatory and pore-clearing ingredients.

For special occasions: Shave in two steps. First, shave with the grain with very light pressure. Second, reapply a coat of shaving cream and shave against the grain for super-close and smooth results.

*Menscience Androceuticals uses cutting edge skin care, providing a revolutionary line of products for men uniquely based on professional-grade ingredients that afford the highest level of performance and quality.

When one wants to talk of acne and how to get rid of them, what comes to mind are the permanent solutions and there are actually three of them that can bring good news to everyone in the society who experiences this kind of malady. There are two kinds of treatment recommend by dermatologists. There’s the Murad acne treatment and there’s the Blu-U Levulan Acne Treatment. The former uses three products: a cleanser, an exfoliating gel and a skin lotion. This set promises obvious effects in just 4 weeks but the disadvantages of these are these products has salicylic acid which is harmful to those who are salicylic-sensitive and it’s very expensive. The latter uses blue laser light to make the bacteria inactive and shut your pores & by doing this, it alters the natural course of your excretory system and makes your skin dry. But there is no report yet that these remedies are also recommended to teenagers. Listen, if you want a remedy for everybody, go for the natural way and the best method can be found in Chris Gibson’s best-selling book called “Acne Free in 3 Days” and who is Chris Gibson, by the way? There’s only way to find out.

One of the myths about marriage is that marriage will make you happy. That's not true.

A Happy Marriage Comes From Within
Your happiness both as an individual and as a married partner must come from within yourself.
Being married can add to your happiness, but it is not and can not be the primary source of your happiness. Here are strategies to help you create a happier you and a happy marriage.

A Few Strategies for Creating a Happier You and a Happy Marriage
    Like yourself.

    *Be yourself.

    *Be nice to one another.

    *Show mutual respect.

    *Be supportive of each other.

    *Agree to have fair fights.

*Each evening, share with one another three happy things that you noticed during the day. Talk about why these moments of happiness occurred.

*Both of you write down how you want to be remembered. Talk with your spouse about how the way you are living your lives helps or takes away from what's important to you both.

*Make a list of things that make you happy such as a sunny day, a hot bath, a child's laugh. Create ways to include these happy times in your life more often.

*Do a random act of kindness not only for a stranger each day, but also for one another. Don't talk about these acts of kindness with one another. They are for your own personal self-esteem and growth.

    *Fill your own emotional needs.

    *Compliment and affirm your spouse.

    Word of Caution
We are not saying that you can create a happy marriage when there is infidelity, abuse, lying, etc. A dysfunctional marriage can make you unhappy.

If you are in an unhappy marriage, please seek professional counseling so you can make an informed and rational decision as to whether or not your marriage is worth saving.

In no particular order, here are ten things that many wives want from their husbands.

Note that these are "wants" -- not emotional needs. As individuals, we are each responsible for filling our own emotional needs.

We believe that the four basic emotional needs are the need to be loved and to love; the need to belong; the need for a good self-image; and the need for autonomy.

    1. Telling Her Daily That She is Loved
Everyone wants to be affirmed. Everyone wants to know they are loved. The best ways to say "I love you" are usually in simple, everyday, seemingly unimportant ways like an unexpected hug or holding hands when you walk together.

    2. Understanding and Forgiveness
There will be days when your wife will make mistakes or when she will be difficult to be around. No one is perfect. She both wants and deserves your willingness to understand and forgive her. Remember that no relationship can be sustained without forgiveness.

    3. Conversation
Don't let your conversations with your wife dwindle to nothing but talk about your kids, your jobs, and the weather. If that happens, your marriage relationship could be in real trouble.

    4. Willingness to Make Time for Her and Your Children
Having quality time with your wife and kids isn't something that just happens. You have to make it happen by not only making the plans but by following through. Time with those you love has to be a high priority for you.

    5. Saying "Yes" More Than Saying "No"
Habitual negative responses to your wife and kids can push them away from you. Think twice before saying "no" and you will be surprised at how saying "yes" can improve your relationships.

    6. Listening Well
It's really disheartening for a wife to share her thoughts and feelings with her mate and then realize that he didn't actually listen to her. Your wife wants you to not only listen with your ears, but to listen with your heart.

    7. Affection and Kindness
How often do you say "please" or "thank you" or give your spouse an unexpected kiss? Unfortunately, some married couples forget that being kind and affectionate to one another are keys to a successful marriage.

    8. Sharing Household and Child Rearing Responsibilities.
One of the main reasons couples fight is conflict over who is doing what around the house. Chores and child care are not the sole responsibility of your wife. She shouldn't have to ask you to do your share around the house.

    9. A Day Off Now and Then
Don't fuss about your wife taking a day off several times a month. This means that she will be free from worrying about what is happening with the kids, the house, the pets, and you. She deserves this break in her schedule and she needs to provide it for herself to be emotionally and physically healthy.

    10. Commitment to Take Care of Yourself Both Physically and Emotionally
Many men are notorious for not taking care of themselves when it comes to health issues. This isn't fair to your wife. She is your lover not your mother. Take responsibility for your own health concerns.

    1. Believe in His Capabilities
Many men believe it is important for them to protect and provide for those they love. Let him know that you believe in his talents and skills and are supportive of him.

    2. Understanding
One of the ways you can both tell and show your husband that you want to understand him is by making a commitment to daily dialogue with him. Daily dialogue only takes 20 minutes out of your day. Isn't your husband worth 20 minutes each day?

    3. Affirmation of His Accomplishments
Most guys like to be patted on the back. Compliment your husband often. Just don't over do it with sicky sweet oozes of how great he is. That type of affirmation will backfire.

    4. Acceptance
Many husbands are hurt and angered when their wives try to change them. Realize that the only person that you can change is yourself.

    5. Less Chatter
If your husband is tired, or involved with a project, and you really want to talk to him about something, get to the point. If he wants the details of the topic, he will ask for them.

    6. Affection
Hold your husband's hand in public, leave a message of love on his voice mail, massage his shoulders, give him an unexpected kiss. Men like to be romanced too!

    7. Respect
Show respect for your husband by not making negative comments about his thoughts and opinions, by being considerate of his plans, and by avoiding the "eye roll" when listening to him.

    8. Free Time
Most everyone has a desire for some quiet time alone, and time to re-energize, regroup, and reconnect. When your husband first gets home from work, allow him some free time to unwind. Don't over-schedule his days off with projects around the house.

    9. Trust
Trust is vital in the success of a marriage. If you are having doubts about your husband and find it difficult to trust him, seek counseling and not spying.

    10. To Be a Companion
Hopefully, you can say that your husband is not only your lover, but also your friend. Staying friends and companions through the years requires that you find ways to make time together and to do things together.
