Americans consume 28 billion single use bottles of water per year and roughly 80 percent of those end up in a landfill. Even if you don't fancy yourself an eco-crusader, the impact of that amount of trash is significant, not to mention Bisphenol A--a chemical found in most water bottles--has been linked to a host of ailments including increased risk of cancer, obesity, early onset puberty, and diabetes. Companies are slowly phasing out the use of Bispehnol A, but why wait until they discover that another chemical in the plastic is harmful? The Good Human environmental awareness blog has a guide which ranks bottle choices from worst to best. Turns out the best water bottle is made of a chemically inert substance, and you just can't beat stainless steel.
Stainless steel, which does not leach, is difficult to break or crack, and does not easily stain or interact with whatever product you are consuming. The water always tastes good out of it (at least ours does, and it is Los Angeles tap water!) and it keeps it reasonably cold for a little while when we go hiking or out in the sun.

Since this afternoon, our lunch was very simple and cheap. We believe we must buy ourselves something to compensate the lost in nutrition. By this time, the usual mobile peddler who sell everything you can imagine from char siew pau, chicken pau, siew mai, to soya bean drinks, drove by our house.
We quickly rushed out and bought this…
A big bottle of Soya Bean Drink, for RM4.80. Not cheap, right?
Anyway, I think it is OK since he delivers the goods to your gate front in a mini lorry. Yes, that’s the price of convenience. The soya bean drink tastes great, not too sweet and very refreshing.

What is Reverse Osmosis?
Reverse osmosis (R/O) is a water treatment process in which water is forced through a semi-permeable membrane that has very small holes or "pores". Clean water passes through and impurities that are too big to pass through the membrane are left behind and flushed away.
Do I Need a Reverse Osmosis Unit?
It is presumed in this document that the water you are using meets all health regulations and is known to be safe. If your municipality or utility supplies your drinking water, it is likely that you do not need a reverse osmosis unit. Municipally supplied drinking water is microbiologically safe. It is treated to meet health and aesthetic requirements, and is subject to routine testing for microbiological contamination.
If you obtain drinking water from a private supply such as well, it may not be safe from microbiological, chemical, or other types of contamination. Drinking water from private sources should be tested periodically to determine if treatment is required; and, if so, for what specific contaminants or minerals.
Water chemistry is complex and no single water treatment device can be used to remove all types of substances from water. Different drinking water treatment devices have their own advantages and disadvantages. Each household must individually determine if there is a need for additional water treatment. If this is the case, determine the unit or combination of units best suited for your water needs.
How Does Reverse Osmosis Work?
Reverse osmosis systems purify water by forcing pressurized water through a very fine, plastic membrane. If the raw water being treated comes from a well or another private source, disinfection and pre-filters (to remove chlorine and/or particulates/sediment) may be needed in advance of the R/O unit to remove contaminants that can foul or damage the membrane.
Stages of reverse osmosis:
1.During the initial filtration stage, tap water or well water (pressurized by a booster pump) is passed through a particle filter (a pre-filter) that removes silt, sediment, sand, and clay particles that might clog the R/O membrane.
2.The water is then forced through an activated carbon filter that traps minerals and contaminants such as chromium, mercury, copper, chloramine and pesticides. It also removes chlorine, which is important, as chlorine will shorten the life of the membrane.
3.Water is transferred under pressure into the R/O module, allowing only clean water to pass through the small pores in the membrane. Impurities unable to pass through the membrane are left behind and flushed down the drain.
4.Treated water is then sent to a storage tank.
5.Treated water is passed through an activated carbon filter before use to further improve the water's taste and smell.
Water that contains manganese, hydrogen sulphide or iron should be pre-treated to extend the life of the membrane. A dealer can recommend the pre-treatment needed.
Note: Reverse Osmosis units produce no noise other than the sound of water discharging into the drain (usually a sink or a floor drain).
How Do I Know What Size Unit to Buy?
R/O units are rated according to the amount of treated water produced per day. For example, one type of unit produces 50 litres of treated water per day under its design conditions. Such a unit is generally rated with 60 psi water line pressure, a water temperature of 25° C (77° F), normal dissolved solids and 2 atmospheres of pressure. In reality, conditions frequently vary. Line pressure is often lower, water will frequently be colder than 25° C and backpressure in the storage tank will likely reduce the performance of the unit. Consequently, you should examine water conditions and buy a larger rated unit than needed if any of the above problems are noted.

R/O units will not operate efficiently at water pressures below 40 – 45 psi. If the pressure is too low, as in the case in many rural private systems; in an apartment on a higher floor of a building; or at the end of a long water line serving several units, a booster pump should be installed to increase pressure.

I try to use as many free traffic programs as I can to increase traffic to my web sites. But does this traffic actually make sales for me? Probably not directly but indirectly they can.

Top 10 Tips
10. Write at least five major “pillar” articles. A pillar article is a tutorial style article aimed to teach your audience something. Generally they are longer than 500 words and have lots of very practical tips or advice. This article you are currently reading could be considered a pillar article since it is very practical and a good “how-to” lesson. This style of article has long term appeal, stays current (it isn’t news or time dependent) and offers real value and insight. The more pillars you have on your blog the better.
9. Write one new blog post per day minimum. Not every post has to be a pillar, but you should work on getting those five pillars done at the same time as you keep your blog fresh with a daily news or short article style post. The important thing here is to demonstrate to first time visitors that your blog is updated all the time so they feel that if they come back tomorrow they will likely find something new. This causes them to bookmark your site or subscribe to your blog feed.
You don”t have to produce one post per day all the time but it is important you do when your blog is brand new. Once you get traction you still need to keep the fresh content coming but your loyal audience will be more forgiving if you slow down to a few per week instead. The first few months are critical so the more content you can produce at this time the better.
8. Use a proper domain name. If you are serious about blogging be serious about what you call your blog. In order for people to easily spread the word about your blog you need a easily rememberable domain name. One of the best ways to find the right type of reader for your blog is to comment on other people’s blogs. You should aim to comment on blogs focused on a similar niche topic to yours since the readers there will be more likely to be interested in your blog.
Most blog commenting systems allow you to have your name/title linked to your blog when you leave a comment. This is how people find your blog. If you are a prolific commentor and always have something valuable to say then people will be interested to read more of your work and hence click through to visit your blog.
6. Trackback and link to other blogs in your blog posts. A trackback is sort of like a blog conversation. When you write a new article to your blog and it links or references another blogger’’s article you can do a trackback to their entry. What this does is leave a truncated summary of your blog post on their blog entry - it’’s sort of like your blog telling someone else’s blog that you wrote an article mentioning them. Trackbacks often appear like comments.
This is a good technique because like leaving comments a trackback leaves a link from another blog back to yours for readers to follow, but it also does something very important - it gets the attention of another blogger. The other blogger will likely come and read your post eager to see what you wrote about them. They may then become a loyal reader of yours or at least monitor you and if you are lucky some time down the road they may do a post linking to your blog bringing in more new readers.
5. Encourage comments on your own blog. One of the most powerful ways to convince someone to become a loyal reader is to show there are other loyal readers already following your work. You will probably only get 1-10 incoming readers per day with this technique but over time it can build up as you climb the rankings. It all helps!

This is another tip that doesn’t bring in hundreds of new visitors immediately (although it can if you keep doing it) but it’’s worthwhile because you simply leverage what you already have - your pillar articles. Your article then becomes available to other people who can republish your article on their website or in their newsletter.
How you benefit is through what is called your “Resource Box”. You create your own resource box which is like a signature file where you include one to two sentences and link back to your website (or blog in this case). Anyone who publishes your article has to include your resource box so you get incoming links. If someone with a large newsletter publishes your article you can get a lot of new readers at once.

Google has clarified (and confused some webmasters in the process) how it handles dynamic versus static URLs - will you listen? You'll want to read more if you've spent time rewriting URLs to accommodate user-friendly structures over the years - apparently, in the eyes of Google, it's not necessary.Google is suggesting not rewriting dynamic URLs as it is difficult for Web designers and developers to create and maintain sites that make the change (if they don't know for certain what they are doing) AND Google itself might have problems crawling and ranking dynamic URLs if they are made to look static (in the process hiding parameters which offer Googlebot valuable information on the content of the page.)
Let's actually backup a bit and provide a little background. Static URLs are those that do not change (they contain no parameters.) If you've ever undertaken an effort to rewrite dynamic URLs you know how that goes. Updating these pages can be tedious and time consuming, especially if there is a large quantity of information behind the scenes, which is why so many turn to rewriting dynamic URLs - wherein content is pulled from a database and displayed in a restructured fashion on-demand.
By all accounts and by Google's own admission, it is safer to serve the dynamic URL and let Google manage detecting/avoiding problematic parameters. Why? The commonly held belief that static or static-looking URLs are an advantage for indexing and ranking sites no longer applies. In the past, Google (as did all search engines - that continues by the way) had problems with session ID's and parameters. Progress has been made over time however, so now (according to Google) "While static URLs might have a slight advantage in terms of click through rates because users can easily read the URLs, the decision to use database-driven websites does not imply a significant disadvantage in terms of indexing and ranking." In short, providing search engines with dynamic URLs should be favored over hiding parameters to make them look static.
As you can imagine, the announcement is causing great amount of confusion in SEO circles. For those using WordPress permalinks, if you can be certain that they do not introduce any irrelevant elements into the URL (which WordPress is actually very good at producing) then there should not be any problems. For those using SEO modules that rewrite URLs (like the ones we featured last week), know in no uncertain terms that Google prefers the dynamic URLs as these solutions make understanding a website easier - for Google.
